PART 1 - GENERAL

 

1.1       REQUIREMENTS INCLUDED

 

  A.      The Contractor, during the performance of this contract, will be restricted to the use of the work site, haul roads, housing and messing, and storage and laydown areas assigned by the Owner.  The Contractor shall comply with applicable criteria and standards for Construction and use of field offices, work sites and laydown areas.

 

1.2       WORK PERMITS

 

  A.      Owner approval is required prior to any excavation, temporary construction or connection to existing utilities systems or structures.

  B.      The Contractor shall request Owner approval as follows:

 

1.         The request for utilities connections shall include a design and installation package showing type of materials, methods, test procedures and work specifications. Water and electric meters shall be provided and installed by the Contractor.

 

2.         The Contractor may not interrupt any service without prior written approval of the Owner.

 

3.         Contractor shall request inspection of the work by the Owner prior to final connection and backfilling.  The Contractor shall perform all testing of HV/LV cables, transformers, meters and piping in accordance with manufacturers specifications and witnessed by the Owner.

 

4.         The Contractor shall obtain excavation approval from the Owner prior to initiating any subsurface work.  Unless otherwise approved by the Owner, road crossings activities (if any ) must be completed within 7 days and must include repair of road.  A copy of the Owner excavation approval must be in the possession of the person in charge at the excavation site.

1.3       CONTRACTOR FACILITIES SITE APPROVAL

  A.      Contractor shall obtain Owner approval of the construction of temporary facilities and all such construction shall be in accordance with applicable Owner regulations for construction and use of field offices, worksites and laydown areas.

 

  B.      Contractor's request for temporary facilities shall include a three copies of a site plan showing size, location and use of desired area and location, size and construction details of temporary buildings, installations, facilities, utilities and access roads.  The request shall include the requested occupancy date, period of occupancy and special requirements if any.

 

  C.      No approval will be granted by the Owner to the Contractor for the establishment of plants on Owner property for manufacture of goods available from HVACMEP.SITE  manufacturers.

 

1.4       PROTECTION OF PROPERTY

  A.      Requirements hereinafter specified are in addition to Special Condition "Protection of Property."

 

  B.      Existing Surfaces and Facilities:

1.         Take positive action to protect all existing surfaces and facilities from any damage resulting from construction operations unless modifications to the surfaces or facilities are required as a part of the contract.

 

2.         Protect all paving, landscaping, and utility facilities from damage caused by mobile and stationary equipment, including vehicles delivering materials to the site.

3.         Protect all finished surfaces, including jambs and soffits of all openings used as passageways through which materials are handled, against any possible damage resulting from the conduct of the work by all trades.

 

4.         Provide and maintain adequate protection of all adjacent structures.  When required by law, or for the safety of the work, shore, brace, underpin or otherwise protect those portions of adjacent structures which may be affected by the work.  The Contractor, before commencement of any part of the work, shall give any notices required to be given to an adjoining landowner or other parties.

C.        Utilities:

 

1.         Utilities as known to the Owner are shown on the Contract Drawings.  The locations of these utilities are not guaranteed, nor is there any guarantee that other utilities do not exist.  Unless otherwise specifically directed, protect utilities from damage and prevent any interruption of service.

 

2.         Before commencing construction, verify the location of all utilities in the vicinity of the work area.  Prior to beginning construction affecting any utility submit a plan for performing the work to the Owner for review and obtain an excavation permit.

 

  D.      New Work:

 

1.         All finished surfaces of items shall be clean and not marred upon acceptance of the structure.  Refinish all such surfaces that have been inadequately protected and are damaged.

 

2.         Do not permit traffic or material storage on roof surfaces.  Where some activity must take place on the roof in order to perform the work, provide and maintain adequate protection.

 

3.         The Contractor shall at all times provide and maintain adequate protection against weather so as to preserve all work, materials, equipment, apparatus and fixtures free from injury or damage.

 

4.         Do not load or permit any part of a structure to be loaded so as to endanger its safety.

 

5.         Do not use items of equipment that are intended to form a part of the completed work as construction equipment without specific approval from the Owner in each instance.

 

  E.      Detection of Movement and Damage to Adjacent Existing Facilities Structures and Roads:

 

1.            Conduct a pre-construction inspection of existing facilities, structures, and roads in the vicinity of the work site.  Document the inspection by photo-graphs, sketches and narratives assembled into an inspection report.  The inspection shall be signed and dated by the owner/lessee of the facility, structure, and roads, indicating agreement that the report represents an accurate description of the existing condition.  Submit a copy of the inspection report to the Owner.

 

2.         Establish a system of reference points on or about any facility, structure, and road which may be affected by excavation performed as part of this contract.  The reference points for facilities or structures shall be sufficient to permit detection of any horizontal or vertical movement which may occur. These points shall be accurately referenced to a stable benchmark remote from the work.  Make an accurate survey of the points at least weekly during excavation, submit a plan of the movement detection system for approval by the Owner.  Submit a copy of each survey of the movement detection system to the Owner within 24 hours after survey is made.

  F.       Repair of Damages:

 

1.         As soon as possible after discovery of any damage to surfaces of facilities, structures, and roads, which are to remain in place, the Contractor shall notify the Owner as to the damage.  The Owner will charge the Contractor for any repairs or direct the Contractor to repair such damage.  All repairs shall result in conditions equal in strength to the previous conditions. All damaged surfaces shall be repaired in a manner and to a quality acceptable to the Owner.

 

2.         Replace in kind shrubs, cultivated vegetation and trees with significant damage outside the clearing limits which are damaged by construction operations. Replace trees larger than 3 inches caliper size measured at a height 3 feet above ground swell with trees of 3 inches caliper size.  Replace all other vegetation with the same species and sizes as those which were damaged, unless otherwise approved by the Owner. All newly planted vegetation shall be nurtured and maintained for a period of one year.
